It was 30 minutes past five in the afternoon and I have just arrived at Kedai Bahagia from work. It was raining heavily and the air was getting colder. I wondered if the weather will keep people from coming to the opening night. I ordered a bowl of hot noodle soup and waited. There was a popular sinetron (soap opera) playing on TV; I tried to ignore it by reading the LFI magazine.
The day was special, not only because it’s the opening of our third exhibition PLACES by Dani Subagja, but because I was expecting friends — some of which I haven’t met before; only through online presence.
A few minutes after 6 o’clock and there they were…
They arrived a bit late but it didn’t reduce the excitement. They were our special guests Kapten Morgan and Utie Lw, Sari Asih, Henrycus, and Dicky Jiang — my partner in Black Man Ray. Later that night, friends keep coming in: Aditya Pratama, Eki Qushay Akhwan, Tandia, Irma Chantily.
There were a lot of friendly conversation and laughter amidst the smoke. I can hardly followed every conversation. Everybody looks happy and I hope they enjoy the night; it’s one of the reason I run this place in the first place.
It’s true what wise people say that time run faster when we enjoy it. One by one started to leave the place to go home. The day after was a holiday so I don’t have to worry about work for a while.
Later that night, I walked home. The journey felt lighter than usual. The scent after the rain smelled good. Oh, I love petrichor.
